Awards
At CCT, it is important to us to recognize that some of the most important work we do happens off stage. The Placier Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Victoria Schafer Volunteer of the Year Award are two ways we show gratitude to those who give.
The Robert L. Placier Service Award
The Placier Award is a one-time award given to a volunteer who has made a long-lasting impact on the organization.
Nominees are generally those who have served Chillicothe Civic Theatre over a decade and who have completed major projects to benefit the organization.
In the 1980's and 1990's Chillicothe Civic Theatre was supported and sustained primarily through the efforts of four couples: Katie and Jack Sullivan, Rosemary and Bem (yes, that was his name) Hough, Nancy and Walt Mytinger, and Pat and Bob Placier. Without them, there may not be a CCT today and they would certainly be happy and proud of what CCT has developed into. It was a much less formal organization in those days but, nonetheless, one which was well known and respected in the community. These individuals would host routinely CCT board meetings and CCT parties in their homes. A couple of them had special talents. Katie was the seamstress/costumer and, I swear, could make a tuxedo out of a handkerchief. Nancy wrote and starred in a play, which CCT presented at the Majestic about her battle with cancer. Bob Placier's support was much less visible but no less important. For many years he assisted the organization, preferring to remain quietly in the background, while the others were more visible. When CCT wanted to recognize him for his service, the Robert L. Placier Service Award was created. This award is presented at the discretion of the CCT Board of Directors and is designed to honor those whose service to, and support of, CCT extend over years and, in some cases, decades. Past recipients include those who have served in visible roles and in the background. There is no requirement that it be an annual award.
